Wenger eyes up 15-year-old, while City plan £11m bid for defender Jerome Boateng
The latest transfer gossip, rumours and damned lies
If The Spoiler is being honest, transfer rumours in the middle of March reek of futility. With over two months until the window re-opens and a whole lot of football to be played and fortunes to be changed, ‘predicting’ who-goes-where is even more of a desperate stab in the dark than usual.
In order to liven things up for everybody (mainly for us) on a particularly barren day for training ground gossip, The Spoiler has decided to once more roll out the beautiful game’s one true crystal ball – Harry Redknapp’s Football Manager.
Amateur pugilist Roberto Mancini has resurrected his interest in Hamburg‘s towering German international defender Jerome Boateng, brother of the occasionally useful Pompey midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng. The 21-year-old has a buyout clause of just £11m, but the Bundesliga club are desperately trying to re-negotiate contract terms to ward off any suitors.
Football Manager predict-o-meter: the omens actually look quite good, Boateng has contributed five assists and one goal in the past three seasons, while putting in a series of steady performances. He is also described as ‘media-friendly’, which will delight Garry Cook.
Arsene Wenger is once more playing the long game, having been linked with a £1m move for Stuttgart‘s 15-year-old Greek goalkeeper Odesseas Vlachidimos – who comes with the Jens Lehmann Seal of Approval, according to the Daily Mail.
Football Manager predict-o-meter: erm, he’s not in The Spoiler‘s game.
Perpetually striker-thirsty Everton are in the market for Croatia (a country fast becoming the best source of the Premier League’s top imports) striker Mario Mandzukic, with David Moyes having sent his scouts out to cast an eye over the 23-year-old’s performance for Dinamo Zagreb in a recent cup match.
Football Manager predict-o-meter: he’s been bought by AC Milan, has a ratio of a goal every other game, can play with both feet and ‘argues with officials’. Pull the trigger Moyesy!
Over at White Hart Lane, Harry Redknapp is being strangely frugal and making enquiries into taking 27-year-old former Aston Villa midfielder Thomas “The Hammer” Hitzlsperger to north London on a free transfer.
Football Manager predict-o-meter: Hasn’t done anything of note for two seasons, but he’s got 18/20 for long shots and can throw the ball really far. If that’s any consolation.

It isn’t the first time Wenger’s eyed-up a 15 year old boy, is it!?
