Check it out, Arsenal fans – FIVE great football comebacks!
Including a certain Liverpool match
Regardless that the score reads 2-2 going in to tonight’s match, should Arsenal overcome Barcelona, it would surely make for one of football’s greatest ever comebacks. Barcelona were astonishingly good for most of the first leg.
So, with that in mind, after the jump you can relive some wonderful football matches that blew everyone’s minds.
Wenger, consider this a motivational montage of sorts…
Liverpool 3-3 AC Milan, 2005
A match fondly remembered by many, but not so much by a high ranking member of The Spoiler team who decided that enough was enough and switched the thing off at half time. A big mistake that day, as Liverpool produced one of the finest comebacks ever seen. By most people anyway.
West Germany 3-2 England, 1970
On the back of their 1966 triumph, England were so confident during their 1970 quarter final against West Germany that Alf Ramsey took Bobby Charlton off – with England ahead 2-0 – to rest him for the next round. It was at that point that West Germany casually produced some eggs and smeared them all over England faces.
Angola 4-4 Mali, 2010
If Wenger wants to show his boys a team that just doesn’t know when to die, he could point them in the direction of Mali, who found themselves 4-0 down with fifteen minutes to go, before managing to produce the unthinkable.
Man United 2-1 Bayern Munich, 1999
Everyone knows this story. Bayern Munich fans singing victoriously, not long left, Ferguson makes a couple of changes, and bosh! It’s a match set to go down in folklore, and thousands of years from now – thanks to generations of Chinese whispers - an old Mancunian man will be overheard telling his grandchildren the story of a young Norwegian midget who managed to slay a big German octopus with his bare hands.
Spurs 3-4 Man City, 2004
Arsenal fans might be particularly fond of this particular comeback, which found their swishy North London neighbours cruising in the FA Cup 4th Round at 3-0, before Man City suddenly decided to play a bit of football.

Norwich 4 – 4 Middlesbrough
Hasselbaink scores 10 minutes from time for Middlesbrough to go 4-1… the Norwich fans start singing “we’re gonna win 5-4…!” and it all changes… Middlesbrough are 4-2 up, after an Ashton goal, after full-time…. Norwich get 2 in extra time to seal a precious draw…. Adam “never scores” Drury, nodding in the winner. Immense!
