Aaron Lennon’s feeling better, Mancini’s staying put…
Lennon – back on the plane?
Fans of romantic things will presumably be wiping their tears away with fallen rose petals today, with the terrible news that Lenny Henry and Dawn French are getting divorced. Did she tire of his hilarious jokes? Was his Theophilus P. Wildebeest character no longer a guaranteed turn on? No one will ever know. It’s between French and Henry.
And so on to happier things – namely football news. Here’s what we know today, thanks to The Times, The Sun, The Daily Mail etc…
After all of the speculation linking him to Juventus in the summer, Roberto Mancini has decided to put the record straight. He said this, as reported on the official Man City website:
“In Italy it is normal in March or April for that to happen.”
“There are three newspapers that write about football every day, and they must write something on a manager’s future or a player’s future.”
“I did give an interview, but I never said I wanted to go to Juventus.”
“Manchester City is my club and I have a contract here for three and a half years.”
In important World Cup news, it looks like Aaron Lennon might yet reach peak fitness and form just in time to head off to South Africa. His club boss, Henry Redknapp, said this:
“Aaron has been working on his fitness and should be OK. If Fabio Capello rings and asks me about Aaron, I’ll say he should be in good shape for the summer.”
“That is great news for England, especially after the loss of David Beckham.”
“Aaron can become a major player for England in the World Cup finals. But before that we need him for our run-in.”
And Chile are all set to play World Cup warm-ups against both Northern Ireland AND Israel on the same day next month – albeit with two different line-ups.
