I recall Gati…the famouse argentinian goal keeper who has a chance to play against both Pele and Maradona. He was brought for an interview on Fox sport Argentina to compare Pele and Maradona. The argentinian anchors thought for sure, Gati, an argentinina will solve the dilema…on behave of Argentinians…Gati was asked who’s the best of all time. Gati said: Maradona era un monstro…pero el Negro…el Negro era una pesadilla….no toques al Negro…no lo compares….el negro por supuesto!!!

Every single age has its own king. Comparisons are difficult but here in the US is all about statistics. Some say Maradona singlehandedly won wcup 86…please look at his team…it was a good team. If that statement is true, then Romario won singlehandedly Wcup 94…look at his team…they were all terrible…except for Dunga. Maradona and Romario shone in their team because they were great and they had good players next to them….PELE played with the greatest of all time DIDI, VAVA, GARRINCHA, DI ESTEFANO, MUELLER, ADEMIR, BECHENBAUER, ETC…. AND HE SHONE ABOVE ALL… SO…each person claims as the best player that one you have seen playing…the debate is open…but….like the say in the US it is all about the stats…Pele is the man!

King Pele scored 77 goals for Brazil in 92 internationals over 12 years; messi has been playing for argentina for 5 years now(since 2005) and has scored only 13. Is it not the same Chile, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Uruguay, Italy and the rest that Messi cant score against that PELE used to tear apart??? Come on!!!!!!!

i am not a big fan of messi but the truth must be said! i have watched both play and messi is way better!! football now is much quicker than my days . pele is talking about scoring over 1000 goals, is he aware that he scored most of his goal playing in brazilian league and MLS back in 60s? both league were and still are below average and dont have any sense of defense what so ever. if pele played in Europe he wouldnt have scored over 200 goals.

I doubt that any player can score more than a 1000 goals in his professional career nowadays. But since the game changed a bit during the last 40 years that shouldn’t count for too much.
But Pelé is right about Messi’s performance in the national team. Unless Messi wins the world cup at least once he is not up there neither with Pelé nor with Maradona.

I stongly believe messi wont be able to manage even 3 goals at this year’s worldcup(south africa 2010). mark it on the wall!!
Messi is international FLOP. Ronaldinho helped brazil to win 2002 world cup by single-handedly eliminating England(david Seaman).Mesi cant achive any of those feats!!!!!

pele is not at same level as this 2 fantastic players are.

Also, Pele didn’t have HGH pumped into his legs every day when he was a kid to make him taller and his legs stronger. Pele 1 – 0 Messi.
