Messi convinced that Fabregas will join Barca… Wenger isn’t

Messi and Fabregas in the olden days

Messi and Fabregas

There has been much talk all season long about whether Fabregas will return to his Barcelona home in the summer, and even now that he’s knackered his leg and will miss the rest of the campaign, there appears to be no silencing the clamour. In fact, if anything, it’s getting louder.

The word from The Express is that Barca are readying a £50million raid to win back their prodigal son, and now their star player has put his own feelings out there. Messi said this:

“Cesc has a place for Arsenal in his heart, but he has Barcelona in his blood.”

“He will want to win the biggest prizes in football, and I expect him to do that at Barcelona.”

“I don’t exactly know when that will be, but I expect him to be my Barcelona team-mate again at some point.”

“I am sure that Arsene Wenger and Cesc have a father-son relationship and I know that he has a very special relationship with the Arsenal fans.”

“When you grow up at a club, it is more than just a club. The coaches, the players, the people in the club will be like family.”

“But Barcelona is his city and it is the club of him and his family. There are only a few players in the world who can improve this squad we have but Cesc is one of them.”

The little genius went on to rub further massage oils into his old friend’s ego…

“Nobody would really know how to play against him.”

“We played together and at that age you want to stay on the ball and do something special.”

“But Cesc would just calmly look up and see a pass that nobody else on the field could see. It would completely split the defence. You have to work hard in training to be the best, but to see what Cesc sees on a football pitch – you are born with it.”

“You can try to learn as much as you want, but you will never be taught how to see a pass the way he can.”

Meanwhile, across the waters in beautiful North London, Wenger was busily telling everyone to back off (as reported in the Daily Mail):

“Do you want to see the length of his contract?”

“Players at the end of contracts can sign where they want but, with the players who are under contract, we decide on their future.”

“We are not under any financial need, we are well managed and that gives you one luxury in that you can decide about the future of your players.”

Of course, more than any other manager, Wenger has always seemingly flogged his bigger players for the maximum price at just the right time. And with £50million on the table, and annoying speculation unlikely to die down any time soon, might it be time to cut this particular cord?

Cesc would never get in the starting IV, what’s the point?

What Messi is trying to say is what Pat Benatar said long ago, “We Belong Together”. Pique returned, now is Cesc’s time and the terrific trio is united again. I’m certain that Pep sees Cesc as the successor to Xavi’s throne. Rumour has it that Cesc’s grandfather also really wants to see him in Blaugrana colours.

It will happen, but not until Arsernal have a worthy midfield replacement.
