The PFA’s Team of the Season: Did they get it right?
A very glitzy occasion
Well done to the 60 per cent of Spoiler readers who correctly predicted that Wayne Rooney would be named the PFA’s Player of the Year. As predictions go, it’s probably the football equivalent of guessing what outfit Simon Cowell might wear on Britain’s Got Talent. But still, well done. As for the 40 per cent who thought otherwise – Simon tends to wear black t-shirts.
Anyway, yes, Rooney trumped Fabregas, Drog-Drog, and Tev to the big one, whilst James Milner managed the impressive feat of beating Rooney to the lesser statuette - the Young Player of the Year. How they figure that one out is anyone’s guess.
And so to their team of the season, which lines up like this: Joe Hart (Birmingham), Branislav Ivanovic (Chelsea), Richard Dunne (Aston Villa), Thomas Vermaelen (Arsenal), Patrice Evra (Manchester United), Antonio Valencia (Manchester United), Darren Fletcher (Manchester United), James Milner (Aston Villa), Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Didier Drogba (Chelsea).
Have they got it right?
The Spoiler would be tempted to include Gomez in goal, put in Sagna over Ivanovic, and strong cases would also be put forward for Bale, Malouda, Tevez, and Bellamy.
Let us know your thoughts with a comment.

Tevez and Bellamy I could understand, but Malouda and Bale has only really been impressive in the second half of the season…

Point taken, kimblim, but their impact has been huge (especially Bale) at a very important time. That surely puts them in the running, no?

Yes, it puts them in the running, but I don’t think it puts them in the first 11… Also, the voting was done months ago which is always an issue with these things!
If I should name a player who isn’t on the list, I think Darren Bent could be on the bench for this team – he’s only scored one goal less than Tevez and he plays for Sunderland! Quite an accomplishment.

I’m gonna say something here, fellas. There are no conspiracy theories, the PFA have simply bottled it.
Here is the real team of the season, and I make no apologies for saying this:
Given
City’s right-back
Toure
Lescott
Bridge
Kompany
De Jong
Barry
Bellamy
Tevez
Adebayor

I don’t want to rain too heavily on your parade Garry, but I’m not sure that all of those named would even make Man City’s team of the season.

I’d have Reina over Hart, and Lampard over Fletcher.
