Modric to United, Carrick back to Spurs, and more…
Oh look, it’s the new Paul Scholes…
The big news on the transfer market is that Man United are set to continue in their mission to turn Tottenham into some kind of breeding ground for excellent players who they can then slowly ruin. First by paying preposterous money for them. And then by chipping away at their confidence bit by bit, until they finally join Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov in a stony navel gazing silence on the bench.
In the last couple of weeks, much has been made of the possibility of Gareth Bale heading up North to have his self-belief shattered, thanks to immovable rocks like Patrice Evra, Nani, and the evergreen Ryan Giggs – who, by the way, is about 50. And now it seems that Fergie and his men fancy having a crack at Luka Modric.
According to today’s Sun, Fergie is willing to part with around £25million in crumpled notes to land the Croatian playmaker, and there is even talk of United throwing in the shadow of Michael Carrick as a sweetener. Apparently, Fergie sees him as “the new Paul Scholes”, which might come as something of a shock to “the actual Paul Scholes”.
Incidentally, wasn’t Berbatov supposed to be “the new Eric Cantona”?
In other Man United/Spurs news, there may yet be a gap in the door for Bale, should he choose to take the plunge – the whisper is that Patrice Evra could be off to Real Madrid in the summer, with Lassana Diarra moving the other way to continue his tour of the Premier League’s “Big Four” (RIP).
And Spurs are all set to have a bash at landing Bayern’s Hamit Altintop, also known as “the Turkish Luka Modric”. By The Spoiler.
