Fancy making some money on Spanish World Cup glory?
Make money the old fashioned way
For those of you wondering why anyone would back Spain to snaffle the World Cup, here’s a brief reminder of how they got on in the qualifiers, and why they might win, written by some friends of The Spoiler:
Spain are the favourites for this year’s FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and rightly so. They performed magnificently in their qualifying campaign, and won all of their ten games, scoring 28 goals and conceding just 5 in the process. The reason why Spain have performed so well as of late, can be attributed to a mixture of maturity, determination, skill and flair within their team. They have, in recent years, steamrollered all opposition, and the interesting point to be made about the Iberians, is the fact that their team has constantly changed since their European Championship win in 2008. The manager is keen to try new players, try new tactics, and bring in new faces, and this could be the key to victory in South Africa.
A team like the Italians are simply relying on former champions to do the job once more, but Spain are bringing to the fray a completely rejuvenated side. It’s difficult to name Spain’s ‘star players’ because arguably every man in the team is at the top of their game, but special mention must go to goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who’s influence on the side is monumental. Barcelona’s Xavi is regarded as one of the best passers of a football in the world, and his deliveries to the devastating attacking pairing of David Villa and Fernando Torres can rip teams apart within seconds. The team will be strongly expected to advance to the knockout phases with a favourable group draw that sees them pitted against Honduras, Switzerland, and Chile. Whatever the outcome of this year’s World Cup, the bookies are bound to see a lot of betting on the Spanish team coming out on top.
