Football Therapy

Name a time when the England team made you happy…

Ahh, heady days

Shearer, Euro 96

For all that is great about the England team – the banter, the history, the solidarity shown towards Robert Green even though he failed to stop a shot that was exactly as threatening as a singing teddy bear – watching them perform often leaves a man with an empty feeling inside. Not disappointment, more just an inevitable sadness. Of course that was going to happen.

Capello, on the weekend’s evidence, might as well be Sven in a crumpled old Frankenstein mask. The problem positions are the same as ever – the left of midfield, goalkeeper, can Princess Frank and Stevie blah blah blah…

Anyway, in a bid to reignite the flames of passion, consider this post to be some kind of therapy session, and simply name the times that England made you feel alive inside. To kick things off, after the jump you’ll find highlights of a magnificent game against Holland. From 1996…
