Man United lose their friendly match in Kansas

Kansas City Wizards 2-1 Man United

Kansas is rich in history – considered as the natural home of the Wild West, where notorious cowboys like Wild Bill Hickok and Wyatt Earp did their gamblin’, whorin’, whistlin’ and killin’.

And yet their local soccer side thought they’d ignore the macho nature of their hometown, and name themselves after the story of a little girl who has a magic pair of ruby slippers. Weird.

This Kansas City where the Wizards and other KC sports teams play is actually in Missouri, not Kansas. Weird, I know.

Also I reckon “Portland Timbers” is a sensational name.

It just about makes up for having RBNY in the league.

Actually, GoGoYo is wrong. The Kansas City Wizards play their matches at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas. Their friendly with ManU, however, was played across the river in Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri which is home to the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL. Arrowhead has capacity of 77.000 whereas the Wizards home field holds only 10,000.

As for weird team names, well…Hotspurs is not the LEAST bit weird, yes?
