Semi Retirement

Thierry Henry goes for a lovely stroll in New York

Oh God! They’re in New York!

Thierry Henry

Everyone knows what retirement looks like – bewildered old men clumsily digging up roses to avoid awkward conversations with their wives/grandchildren, endless pots of unnecessary tea. But who wants to know what semi-retirement looks like?

Okay, so that’s absolutely everyone.

By the looks of things, semi-retirement looks great, as proven by Thierry Henry, who now appears to spend his days when he isn’t half-heartedly hoofing a ball around in the MLS, enjoying delicious meals in New York City with his girlfriend, who just so happens to be a professional model.

The featured pictures - which, be honest, wouldn’t look out of place in the legendary “society” rag Hello magazine - find the Frenchman out and about with his pals, having presumably just enjoyed a few slices of fresh pizza at a popular Italian restaurant called La Gazzetta.

Fact fans will be impressed to learn that the pictures were taken in an area of NYC called the Meatpacking District, which was a notoriously transexual area in the 1980s, before undergoing something of a transformation of its own, to the point where it was boldly declared “New York’s most fashionable neighbourhood” in 2004.

Rather hilariously, Thierry is showing his age by wearing a Run DMC t-shirt…

    I remember when this site wasn’t just a gossip column trying way to hard to be funny. Sure, that kinda stuff existed, but football had its place on here as well.

    Ryan is missed or the Josh of old.

    And regarding Henry in NY, I’m sure it’s all a part of your elaborate British humor that us AWESOME Americans don’t understand, but I think Henry in the MLS is a very big win for the league and is slowly but surely going to bring guys that have years left in them unlike another Beckham case.

    Worry not, David, once the season starts, we’ll be going football bonkers!

    @David

    Though I haven’t been frequenting this site for very long, I remember when people understood that these summer months were “the silly season” and that any and everything got discussed to kill the time until season starts (Europa qualifiers and Charity Shield notwithstanding, of course).

    So, hang in there, dude.

    @David

    I am American and happen to like the cheeky british humor. The Summer is slow and i would rather not see a ton of pre-season game coverage.

    Here’s to Next WEEK!!

    The Meatpacking District sucks.

    Other than that I’m happy to have Henry in NY. The Red Bulls aren’t my MLS team of choice, but at least with Henry there is someone exciting to watch. Although I admit I might be more excited to randomly run into him around the city. Just not in the Meatpacking…

    I prefer the Fudgepacking District
