Man United linked with “the new Drogba”, and more…
Lukaku – sweet seventeen
As has been made more than apparent to David Beckham, a footballer’s shelf life can be both cruel and brief. Now unwittingly retired from international football, it might be time to take up those acting classes.
All of which leads completely seamlessly to Didier Drogba, who might be disturbed to learn that a young chap dubbed “the new Drogba” might yet be winging his way to the Premier League – presumably to fill the void left by “the old Drogba” when Fabio Capello decides to retire him from professional football.
The lad in question is a 17-year-old Belgian called Romelu Lukaku, who has been blowing minds in Anderlecht for the last year or so, and has now been linked with a £9million move to Man United.
Site regulars might remember that he was also linked with Arsenal during the January transfer window, as well as having attracted flirtatious glances from the boardroom honchos at Chelsea, Real Madrid, and AC Milan over the last few months.
This is him in action:
Here’s what else we know about transfers thanks to the likes of The Mirror, The Sun, and the ooh-ah Daily Mail…
Roy Hodgson’s frenzied determination to transform Liverpool into a solid top eight side continues, with bids reportedly in the offing for Aston Villa’s Stiliyan Petrov and Stephen Warnock, and West Ham’s Carlton Cole.
Whilst should-be-Liverpool-target, Stephen Ireland, is avoiding eye contact with Aston Villa, hoping that Spurs might sweep him up as a like-for-like-only-much-better replacement for Jermaine Jenas, who – rather bewilderingly – doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, even though he now appears to be at a Champions League club.
In three-word news:
Santa Cruz, Fulham.
Jo, West Ham.
James Beattie, Rangers.
That is all.
