Fergie will be fined every week until he makes up with the BBC
The Beeb is missing moments like these…
In a story that in no way highlights the worrying detachment from reality brewed by combining money with football, 68-year-old millionaire Sir Alex Ferguson is continuing his yawnsome beef with the BBC, refusing to give post-match interviews even with the threat of weekly escalating fines from the Premier League.
The cantankerous old gaffer will not talk to any BBC representatives until the organization apologises for claims made about his then football agent son, Jason, in a bung scandal documentary which feels like it came out a thousand years ago now.
However, new Prem laws state post-match interviews from managers are now mandatory and a breach of the rules will result in a fine – starting at around a grand – which will rise every week. According to the Guardian, though, SAF has met warnings with a curt ‘give a fuck?’:
Ferguson is worth around £22m and the 68-year-old is said to be largely unmoved by the threat of comparatively small fines. Instead, he has told colleagues he is waiting for an apology before he speaks to the BBC again. He has accused the institution in the past of “breathtaking arrogance”.
Sam Allardyce and Harry Redknapp have both had similar problems with the Beeb in the past, which have since been squashed. Considering Jason Ferguson isn’t even a football agent anymore, it’s probably about time Fergie took a leaf out of their books.
