Manchester City tried to sign AC Milan’s Marco Borriello
Striker’s agent reveals Bob Mancini was in contact
Italian striker Marco Borriello‘s agent has told press his client could have gone the other way in AC Milan‘s deal to take Robinho from Manchester City, were it not for Karim Benzema and Real Madrid.
Of course, he could just be telling barefaced lies to make his client feel loved, but since it’s Friday afternoon, for once, we’re not going to meet this story with bitter cynicism.
Borriello was eventually shipped off to Roma; however, it appears Man City were in pole position to have had their way with him until Real Madrid barged in and started making eyes at the 28-year-old.
Talking to Corierre dello Sport, Tiberio Cavalleri said:
It could have ended differently. On Monday, I had a call from (Manchester City coach Roberto) Mancini saying he wanted the player (Borriello) to go to Manchester City.
On Tuesday, Real Madrid made an approach but then (Real’s Karim) Benzema said no to (a move to) Marseille and that’s when Roma came into the picture.
Will Roberto Mancini rue missing out on the journeyman striker once suspended for using banned drugs to treat an STI caught from his girlfriend? No. No, he won’t. And don’t let anyone tell you any different.
