So, who is Anders Lindegaard?
Edwin van der Sar’s replacement, apparently.
With elderly Edwin van der Sar widely expected to settle down in his pipe and slippers at the end of the season, Manchester United are reportedly ready to make a move for a player breathlessly described as ‘the next Peter Schmeichel’, Danish keeper Anders Lindegaard.
No, we’ve never heard of him either.
United goalkeeping coach Eric Steele made his fifth trip to Norway to see Lindegaard turn out for top flight side Aalesunds FK on Sunday, and reports say the Red Devils have already started transfer talks.
Curiously, the 26-year-old has only really started playing regular football since last season, spending much of his time at last club OB Odense as a backup player and only making 11 league appearances (plus a further 27 in loan stints) in SIX years.
It all sounds very Bebe.
Fergie described Schmeichel as ‘the bargain of the century’ after snapping him up for just £530,000 in 1991 – but, even then, the Great Dane was already an established international with European experience under his belt.

Steve Harper only played three games in the last 36 years because he was always on the bench. Chris Waddle was working in a sausage factory when he was signed (some would say downscaled) for Newcastle. And Teddy Sheringham dobbed around the lower leagues for ages before getting snapped up by Forest when he was 25.
All I’m saying is that I don’t think that the only route to becoming a top class player is to go to the Clarifontaine Academy (or be coached by a “Tesco Skills Coach” if you’re English!) and then sign for a top European time when you’re sixteen.
