Adrian Mutu accused of battering waiter after ‘racist death threat’
Cocaine is a helluva drug. (Not saying he’s still on it, or anything…)
Romanian striker Adrian Mutu should have his own category on fmylife.com.
So far he’s racked up two failed drug tests, spent 16 months of his career banned from football and been Sent Directly To The Poorhouse Do Not Pass Go Do Not Collect £200 after losing an appeal to pay Chelsea €17m (+ 5% interest p.a.) in damages.
The latest chapter in The Adventures of Adrian sees the 31-year-old arrested on suspicion of battering a nightclub waiter, allegedly in response to racist taunts.
Mutu was in a Florence nightclub at 5am on Saturday when he got into the row over an unpaid tab, apparently knocking out 28-year-old Berat Berat with one punch before kicking him in the chest and zooming off in his Porsche Cayenne.
Berat was left with a broken nose, ‘head trauma’ and chest bruising. However, Mutu’s lawyers say their client only reacted after particularly nasty provocation, telling Italian telly:
“Mutu reacted to a series of repeated and serious racist insults and the threat that he would end up like the Romanian nurse who was killed by a punch in the Rome metro.”
Fiorentina manager Sinisa Mihajlovic, generally viewed as being a fucking mentalist during his own career, was quick to offer his support for the striker:
You have to understand: it is 10 months since he last played. [Friday] was the last night he could go out before his return [from the ban]. Mutu has my character, he does stupid things but he takes responsibility.
Oh. Oh, that’s alright then.
