Martin O’Neill in line to take over Sven’s Saudi Arabian job
Manager ready to boss Al-Hilal
Former Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill is reported to be in talks to take over at Saudi Arabian champions Al-Hilal, in a two-year, £4.5m tax-free deal.
Interestingly it’s the same gig Sven Goran Eriksson was in line to do a few weeks ago, until the Swede dropped it like a bag of cold sick to go take up the reins at Leicester City.
O’Neill is still reported to be one of Liverpool’s backup plans, however the Mirror are speculating the novelty of the challenge, and of course the money, may be too much for the Irishman to turn down.
Al-Hilal insiders claim the deal has almost be wrapped up, telling the paper:
O’Neill would live like a king over here. The club leave no expense spared with their star employees.
He can also bring his staff, but this is not a holiday – the club are committed to being the biggest in the region.
Classy Eriksson was due to take over from outgoing manager Eric Gerets earlier this month, signing a year-long £1.2m contract, but jacked it in less than a week before he was due to start.
