Footballer drives 4×4 on to pitch, ‘tries to run over referee’ after being sent off
(Picture slightly related.)
A Sunday League footballer decided to get his revenge on the referee that sent him off by driving his Range Rover on to the pitch while the match was still in play and threatening to mow the official down.
The 28-year-old sat in his car doing ‘doughnuts’ over the turf in an attempt to get the match abandoned while the referee was forced to hide in the goal, a court in Liverpool heard yesterday.
The Southport and District league player was charged with affray and dangerous driving, and granted bail on condition he kept away from league games.
