Roque Santa Cruz tries to talk another Man City teammate out of the door: ‘Tevez is homesick’
£17m forgotten man loves causing a bit of mischief
£17m (I know we’ve just said it up there, but it bears repeating) Manchester City striker Roque Santa Cruz has been let out of the cupboard underneath the stairs for long enough to tell press Carlos Tevez wants to go back home to Argentina ‘to be amongst his people.’
It’s no secret Tev has trouble coping with life as a professional footballer, but Roque – who has also announced he’s skinning out of Eastlands at the first opportunity – helpfully reminded everyone in a chat Spanish radio station Cadena Sur:
He wants to be among his people, who are in Argentina. Your heart goes out to his family. His siblings and his daughters are there … when you feel that your homeland is calling you back, you could end up giving up everything to return. Still, I think he will see it out and fulfil his contract with City before returning home.
Because publicly highlighting the fact Tevez is 7,000 miles from his wife and kids is sure to make him feel right at home.
As Robinho will tell you, it’s not the first time Santa Cruz has gone on radio, complete with innocent “just sayin’, is all…” look on his face, intimating one of his City teammates want out.
Asked for this thoughts on the rest of the season, the Paraguayan striker signed off the interview with a few encouraging words about Man City’s title aspirations:
We are below the level of those who will fight for the title. Our goal must be to be among the top four. Chelsea look the strongest, the most stable. Manchester United and Arsenal have great squads and will end up fighting for the title and we will have to play for fourth, probably with Tottenham.
Always reaching for the stars, that Roque.
