Arsenal boss says claims are a ‘serious matter’

Arsene Wenger has released a statement addressing allegations published in the The Sun this morning that the 61-year-old Arsenal manager has been having a two year affair with ‘glamorous French rap star’ Sonia Tatar, 39.

Wenger said of the claims:

This is a very serious matter. I do not intend to make any comment and wish to deal with the matter privately.

While Arsenal released their own statement in support of the manager:

Arsenal Football Club considers the allegations concerning our manager Arsene Wenger strictly a private matter and we ask that the privacy of Arsene and his family be respected.

The Sun‘s story, published on Saturday, alleges Wenger met with Tatar after Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Shaktar Donetsk on Wednesday and features pictures of the manager with another woman in what appears to be an airport lounge.

I get the impression there’s more to this than just the usual affair-with-blonde story. Whatever it is, I hope it’s cleared up soon to everyone’s satisfaction and that there are no more such stories in the future.

At his age I bet he was even more concerned about hard tackles whilst he was with her than he was when his team last played Blackburn.

Arsene, when the fans demand trophies they were after silverware not blonde women on your arm.

this is no bodys business but their own and news papers should stop muck raking its about time they got a privacy law in this country

Shame on the press for making this a public matter. One day a group of stars (movie-football -etc) will get smart, band together and dig up dirt on these so called journalist and put their life out there for all to see. F the press for the double standards!!!!

  • Rody // November 7, 2010 at 6:18 am

This is a vastly private matter regarding a person’s family. Why the press published this is beyond me. This type of things happen to every family. Just becoz it’s published in the newspaper does not make it suddenly horrible or anything new. And for the fans calling wenger a disgrace…Wtf? Although wenger appears on tv evryweeked, he does indeed have a family and matters other than football. Stop making a big deal out of this as if the sky is falling.

  • Fat Nakago // November 7, 2010 at 6:34 am

    He’s married. He’s got a glamorous mistress. He’s French.

I don’t see anything wrong with THAT picture in the least.

  • Forreal // November 7, 2010 at 8:46 am

This is crazy; everyone is entitled to their views however calling Wenger a disgrace to Arsenal is bang out of order. I hope all the fans show their support for him at the match today; he has killed no one. The British Press are loving this story as deep down they still hold a grudge against France; if we are going down history lines then can I talk about the ‘slave trade’.

If the press wan to run a story how about ‘why are Madeline’s McCanns parents not in prison?’ they left their children unattended in a foreign country whilst they ‘went out’ and we give them money for it…. makes so much sense. If they lived on a council estate and were not doctors would it be different?

There goes another one who can’t keep his dick in his pants. Shame!

  • RedDevil // November 7, 2010 at 1:56 pm

Mr righteous has been a bad boy.
And of course all the little gooners want privacy laws now that the tables are turned. Of course all the little gooners will say there’s nothing wrong with it.
Maybe his defence can be that the said lady gave him the slightest touch so technically he was right to lay down.
Let’s see you wriggle out of this one Mr Winger, can’t wait till you come to Old Trafford and looking forward to the Tottenham chants already

  • Andreas // November 7, 2010 at 10:29 pm

Judging by the comments it’s not hard to understand why the papers publish these stories, so many idiots who chose to read them, comment on them and judge based on them.

A bit rich coming from a Manc fan! You have a short memery and a small mind like most of you! What did your special little Rooney AKA shrek do in the summer!

We must separate private matters from the professional undertaking. Every body has his/her private secret life and history and Wenger is no saint. if these allegations are true which i highly doubt, let them be handled privately. As a soccer lover, i think all soccer loving people including supporters of rival clubs should be focussing on bettering the sport and making it more competitive. That is why we support different clubs, because there is competition.

  • samobel // November 10, 2010 at 1:00 pm

what wenger did if it is true is very normal, human and there is no need to baptize him with all sorts of name. mr wenger am behind and be strong.

  • john muriango // November 10, 2010 at 2:08 pm

let he who has no blemish be the first one to throw stones at wenger

  • True Van Chelsea // November 10, 2010 at 7:29 pm

I trust The Sun newspaper & sister newspaper News of the World to be the first to publish this ridicule story, in my opinion they are the scum of the earth.
One has to ask the reason why these tabloids decide to run such a dangerous and sensitive story like this one, ‘what is their intention’ to destroy careers? Especially where a lot is at stake i.e. families (what about Mr Wenger’s wife & children)?
Regardless if the accused is guilty of the alleged crime; it is still a private matter.
I will show you a liar if any of their editors says they don’t have any skeleton in their cupboard – we will never know because no one cares what they do in their private lives.
I agree with Richard, I look forward to the day when a group of smart celebrities who have had enough of the media running stories about their private matter decide to play them at their own game.
Finally shame to those who posted negative comments about Mr Wenger (although it is a matter of opinion), however look at yourself in the mirror & if you’re honest what do you see? A hypocrite I’d say. We are all guilty of something!!!

Honestly, I think Arsene is behind the story.

It will stop the Wenger Likes Young Boys meme and it will bring him closer to his younger players who will have new respect for a playah.

This brings him in a totally new light and will do wonders for his fuddy duddy image.

    Wenger and a (female) rapper?
    C’mon… thats a great story.

If they find some video, i am so hoping there is a clip of him dropping some rhymes or maybe singing to The Chronic or Gin and Juice.

I just hope its not true because the woman looks like a dog. I want Arsene’s mistress to be as elegant and sexy as the style he loves his teams to play.
This one looks like the nutter that NBA star Dirk Nowitski got pregnant and then got arrested.

Of course, I hope there is no sex tape. The world already had to live though Gene Simmons fat ass banging some third rate hag, this would be just as sad. We want our idols to be perfect.
For some of us it means that they nail top notch poon that we never will,…

Cmon Arsene, TV6 anchor Mélissa Theuriau is young, hot, smart and sophisticated.
THATS what you should be nailing.

Arsene wont even get Melissa’s arse to begin with. With Melissa Arsene is gonna have a heart attack the moment the temperature goes up. Arsene is fit for 50 year olds!

  • Nozza // November 13, 2010 at 12:11 pm

A bit rich coming from a Manc fan! You have a short memery and a small mind like most of you! What did your special little Rooney AKA shrek do in the summer!

Yet again brilliant bit of business by Arsene, Shrek paid 1,200 for some woven piece of flesh in the summer, whilst Le Boss bags a hot rapper on a free,

    In Arsene We Trust

Hey Red Devil, At least Wenger can still score, I’d like to see what the Old Moaning Scotsmen at Old Trafford could still pull ??

  • Bipin // November 17, 2010 at 2:16 pm

Come on Guys!! People just want to upset one of the best managers in the Premier League… Chelsea and Man u fans can hope this will upset him and affect the gunners on the pitch… but i feel this will hit back at them as all the players will give everything for the most respected coach in the Premier League

  • Gunners4Life // November 26, 2010 at 1:47 am

I wonder what this gossiping British Pressmen have to gain, just snooping into people’s sex life? Who gives a rat-ar*se about who “Winging” is banging?
The point is, these scumbag journalists are not worth the effort (they are Mr. NOBODY!) to waste resources on investigating their “skeletons”. Some of them could be pedophiles, stalkers, and plain nutters but hey, its only ‘exposee’ on important people that generate attention!
I say its your turn Scots-man, show them what a RED is made of (lol)

  • Naive Goona // November 26, 2010 at 11:06 pm

If true I now realize how naive I am. I had this idea in my head that Wenger was such a workaholic on his footy that he had no time for his family & certainly not a cheap tramp. Well done The Scum October’s results for Arsenal- stunning, November’s results since this story was printed- abysmal And the tosspots who read The Scum- you’re worse than they are. Wenger should now do the right thing stick 2 fingers up at The Scum & stay at Arsenal til he retires.

  • Terence // November 27, 2010 at 11:33 pm

Let’s stop the press hounding a brilliant football manager (or Avram Grant) out of the country.

I have a dream of a sports daily paper, which is interested in ALL sports at all levels and their connection with the community, not connected with the sex obsessed redtops. Proper journalism which will regain the trust of all sports participants and give genuine insights and opinions on sports men and women.

In the meantime there is twitter.

  • beckham // November 29, 2010 at 12:15 pm

When will the tabliods have enough of their cheap gossip before they stop? Having Diana killed on the highway and Micheal Jackson and Mike Tyson nuts… not to mention all the others like Britney spears, Bill Clinton, John Terry,Wayne Ronnie, Eric Cantona.

Is there any princple to govern them? I wonder whom they will victimize next.

  • Barry Allen // September 20, 2011 at 3:50 pm

This is not news and was flying around a lot earlier. It goes a long way to explaining the mess the team is in and why the mind is elsewhere instead of earning the money being conned off the fans. The loss of nstar players and lack of any decent results is firmly nailed at this idiots door!
Sorry, it is not private when you destroy a football club and con its supporters! what a great message for the young tallent who will now have no respect for the OLD fool as supporters should have no respect either for him or the booze board that hides him. Well done the Sun
