Jinking Dutchman will rock up at Camp Nou in January

Barcelona have confirmed they’ve thrashed out a deal with PSV to bring Dutch starlet Ibrahim Afellay to Camp Nou – for a price some are speculating is as low as €3m. Who says there’s no value in the market?

The Catalan club released a statement on their website yesterday evening:

PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona have reached an agreement on a deal to bring Ibrahim Afellay to Barca, subject to successfully settling personal terms between the player and the Catalan club over the coming weeks.

Until the deal is finally settled, Ibrahim Afellay wishes to concentrate on the upcoming important games for PSV.

Although the €3m figure is unconfirmed, Barcelona are more likely to have negotiated a favourable price for the 24-year-old after he declined to sign a new contract with PSV ahead of its expiry this summer.

Afellay said of the deal:

Barcelona are fantastic, a great club and a great team. No player would say no to Barcelona.

Wouldn’t let Arsene Wenger hear you say that, Ibrahim.

I’ve never been to the Nou Camp, neither as a fan or as a player and it’s a dream for me to play there, I’m very eager to make my debut at the Nou Camp. I really enjoy watching Barca on TV. Everybody does because they play very attractive football and are very nice to watch.

The truth is that I don’t mind where I play, if it’s in the centre of the pitch, in attack or on the wing. I will play where the coach needs me.

For those unfamiliar with Afellay’s fleet-footed exploits, here’s the requisite YouTube recce (backed by a typically godawful Eurodance score):

Speaking frankly, is their really any need for Afellay at Barca. They a wealth of riches in their squad and there is no reason to believe he will be starting every or most games. Afellay will go the way of Hleb and Bojan, little starting time and few opportunities for success.

it’s true that barca have a wealth of quality squad, but i tell u afellay will not go the same way of hleb because is still very young and with time he will get a place in the squad.
