It seems rather poetic that Bernard Matthews – the scourge of the world’s turkeys – should pass away almost exactly a month before Christmas, and just a few days after the popular US turkey scoffing holiday Thanksgiving. It’s almost like it were written in the stars.

Anyway, RIP bootiful Bernard.

In a bid to scare off Man United and Liverpool, Gerard Houllier has popped a ridiculous £80million price tag on his number one winger, Ashley Young. A cunning move indeed, only it’s also one that might backfire.

Those kind of preposterous figures are exactly the numbers that cause small tenting in Man City robes. He may yet be seen as an Adam Johnson upgrade, if those Liverpool rumours are true.

In further Liverpool news, the word doing the rounds is that Alberto Aquilani’s Italian getaway is threateningly close to being cut short, which would presumably find him dragged back and plomped tearfully on the bench as a poor man’s Steven Gerrard understudy.
