Well said. The Toon were under the impression they were getting a big name with premiership experience, and this is what they get.

I remember in the nineties when Everton were looking for a new manager and the board promised them a huge, massive name, then went and appointed Howard Kendall for about the twenty-fourth time. “Well, ‘Howard Kendall’ does have thirteen letters” one fan quipped.

That said, I don’t think he’s done enough since mastering his own downfall at West Ham and screwing up Charlton to justify getting this job, especially at the expense of Hughton, though it was sad that he was axed by Southampton when finally getting himself back on track.

He walked out on Reading to force a move to West Ham. It took him two season to get them promoted (via the play-offs), and was then sacked after West Ham’s worst run in the top flight for seventy years.

He then guided Charlton to relegation from the premiership, and despite having a strong squad and money to spend couldn’t finish higher than eleventh. He was sacked from Southampton for failing to get them promoted and being on bad terms with largely everyone.

This is a man who has publicly stated his interest in other team’s players, disparaged West Ham fans on video, participated in an on-field brawl and commented on Michael Essien ‘raping’ Ched Evans on MotD.

That’s the ‘man’ you’re getting, Toon fans. I haven’t forgiven Newcastle for fat Mick Quinn standing on Jim Leighton’s foot in a blatant attempt to cheat in the 1990 FA Cup run, and even I think you deserve better than that.

It will take more than just us tumbling down the league to give you lot a chnce of survival….
