Friday Fun

Compile a team of YOUR all time favourite players

Here’s The Spoilers… now rip it apart!

The Spoiler’s Favourite Player XI

As anyone who has grown up watching football knows, there is a huge difference between THE “greatest players ever” and YOUR “greatest players ever”.

With that in mind, The Spoiler thought that it might be fun to wile away a snowy Friday afternoon compiling your own personal Dream Team, from players who impressed you growing up.

Above is The Spoiler’s, which is very much open to criticism.

Stuart Pearce just makes it, in a bid to toughen things up, Gullit crept past Lothar Mattheus as a link between defence and attack, and just imagine Le Tissier, Waddle and Fowler in their prime as England’s attack!

In addition, were The Spoiler forced at gunpoint to select the greatest player of all time, it would probably be Maradona. But take the gun out of the equation and it would be Michael Laudrup or Socrates.

Now do yours…

Why on earth would you play Gullit in defensive mid!? Surely he was better utilised up front, no?… but whatevs it’s your team; just a little bemused is all im saying

  • JoshBurt // December 3, 2010 at 1:53 pm

That was what made him so good Part-time Pundit – he was absolutely brilliant everywhere on the pitch! Kind of like a trillionaire’s Dion Dublin

  • V // December 3, 2010 at 2:04 pm

Oh yes, I see what you did there, Josh!

Since such teams are impossible, I might as well throw 8 Michael Laudrups plus a Puyol, a Beckenbauer and some Schmeichel. Oh yes, I love my Schmeichels and Laudrups and Schmeichels and Laudrups and Schmeichels and Laudrups.

    (no I’m not danish)

That’s unbelievably difficult. Picking your eleven favourite players is hard enough, but what do you do if nine of those players happen to be freewheeling inside-rights? Doesn’t lend itself to much of a formation. Anyway, with that that caveat in mind, here’s my team, which for obvious reasons is managed by Ossie Ardiles and plays in some sort of 3-1-2-3-1 make-it-up-as-we-go-along formation:

    GK Peter Schmeichel
