A Poll!

So, what do you make of the whole Keys and Gray thing?

“Yea, I’d definitely smash Lorraine.”

Just when Richard Keys thought things couldn’t get any worse, he goes and gets himself backed by JEREMY CLARKSON. Oh, dear.

After running over some squirrels in a ‘car’, Clarkson had this to say:

“We’ve arrived at a stage where you actually can be busted by heresy by thought, which is a terrifying place to live.

“We try very hard not to be sexist but people think, ‘Women can’t drive’ or, ‘That bloke’s a minger’. You should be allowed to think what you think.”

Now, Clarkson probably won’t get sacked or made to resign because he’s meant to be controversial. He lives on the edge. He says the things all *&^%s want to say.

But we don’t care about Clarkson, what we really want to know is – what do you think?

Here’s a little poll, so your well considered, intelligent thoughts can be reduced to a number. If you want to expand on it – chuck us a comment.

I half feel sorry, but really, when I look at him on the video site I don’t:

It will be interesting to see how your poll comes out, and theirs.

Of course, Clarkson is completely wrong here on a couple keys points. Firstly, Keys and Gray SAID what they thought, at work no less, which makes it a little more troubling than being censured for not ‘being allowed to think what you think’. By all means think stupid bigoted things, but don’t say them out loud when you are employed as a mouthpiece.

Secondly, Clarkson’s example illustrates how sexism / bigotry operates and why it is easy to miss. Saying a ‘bloke’s a minger’ is a statement of taste about a single individual. Saying ‘women can’t drive’ is suggesting all women can’t drive! That he mixes the two is not just proof of his own sexism, but of simple stupidity.

Finally, Clarkson is ignoring the mounting evidence of a culture of bullying of junior staff – men or women – at SkySports (perhaps he undertakes the same attitudes with the team at Top Gear so he doesn’t notice it).

They had to go. Ok this was lads banter, and lads should be able to banter…….in the appropriate place. But let’s be clear, these were not just thoughts shared between a couple of blokes over a beer in the pub. Sure they didn’t intend for the words to be broadcast to the world, but they were in the work place. They were interacting with the production team, they were being heard by several staff members. How many people could get away with asking their secretary to put her hand down the front of their trousers – as Andy Gray was shown to have done? The answer is no-one. We would all have been sacked for that kind of behaviour. Why should celebreties be any different?

Andy Gray persues legal action against a company run by his own boss.

Video footage gets leaked by an insider at Skysports that leads to his dismissal.

Make of that what you will

The little grass who uploaded those videos on to youtube should be shot. Some of the words they said (though not correct) shouldn’t of been broadcasted in the first place. GRASS!

its a shame so many hypocrites have come out lambasting Keys and Gray.
lets not forget that these men singlehandedly spearheaded sky sports back in the bad old days when no one was watching and everyone was more into italian football than home grown football,

the punishment does not fit the crime , a caution or formal warning should have followed and not the sack.

secondly im so annoyed at people cussing the blokey lads culture that surrounded sky sports – what do people expect , if u work in an industry where more that 50% of people are from working class backgrounds , and where 100% of the workers in football are males – what sort culture do u expect ? i mean in a construction site where ur effectively dealing with the same types of people , you have 1000 times worse banter !

people should get real and stop smashing these 2 for being men in and mans world !

    So gaptooth doesn’t smash it?

  • Chris // January 27, 2011 at 6:22 pm

    Mulliganandohare: very good points

  • braheyes // January 27, 2011 at 6:23 pm

people with gaptooths mentality tend to smash eachother. I mean, he live’s in a man’s world right?

  • Fiel // January 27, 2011 at 11:21 pm

    By gaptooth’s logic

secondly im so annoyed at people cussing the racist culture that surrounded sky sports – what do people expect , if u work in an industry where more that 50% of people are from white supremcist backgrounds , and where 100% of the workers in media are white – what sort culture do u expect ? i mean in a government where ur effectively dealing with the same types of people , you have 1000 times worse rhetoric !

Wonder if this is okay with him?

  • gaptooth // January 28, 2011 at 11:22 am

    @ friel

im also annoyed at people saying sexism is the same as racism – its totally different are u also gonna say ageism is the same ? FOOL !

the difference between a white man and a black man are simply skin deep (same with regards to all other races) there is scientific evidence showing that all races have similar intelligence.

any prejudice against another race must be based on assumptions and stereotypes which are not factual.

the difference between a man and a women is biological and physical – were totally different.
judgments made about women on sexist grounds tend to revolve around their inability to physically do things that men can do – or on sexual grounds , this is a totally different type of discrimination (both have no place in modern society – but all happen to some extent in every day life)

@ braheyes – yes football is a mans world , are you trying to tell me its not ? how many women footballers can you name ? whats the male equivalent of a wag ?

what hypocrites like u fail to see is the utter stupidity of an organisation like sky or murdoch who owns the sun, sacking someone for sexism , yet promoting page 3 girls and soccerettes on soccer am , and then sacking its two anchormen for the last 20yrs for being a product of their own environments.

jump on the bandwagon all you want , but things wont change for a while

haha women only like gender “equality” when it benefits them. the things the women on “loose women” say about men is just as bad sometimes.
