HOORAY! We can watch football in pubs with a clear conscience!

Apparently something is kicking-off in Egypt and there are floods somewhere else and something else happened at that other place. But none of it matters anymore, because we can now go to the pub and watch football streamed from foreign countries guilt free!
You know those slightly shady pubs where you’d go to watch a Saturday 3pm kick-off with commentary courtesy of Greece or Abu Dhabi? Well now they’re actually allowed to do it – the law says so!
You’re heroine is Karen Murphy, landlady of the Red, White and Blue pub in Portsmouth. She gets one over ol’ Rupert Murdoch and his band of capitalists by refusing to pay the stupid money Sky want and instead uses a Greek decoder to show the football.
Sky were trying their damndest to stop pubs doing this, but Dame Murphy brought the case before the EU, who said: “Exclusivity of the rights in question have the effect of partitioning the internal market into quite separate national markets, something which constitutes a serious impairment of freedom to provide services.”
Umm… yea… Basically it means pubs can get the football from where they bloody well like, until someone tells them different.
It’s not all good news though, with football being all pina coladas and pistachios rather than pints and pies these days, the illicit thrill of sneaking into the boozer to watch the football was our last chance to feel how Danny Dyer must feel every waking minute. The Spolier quite liked it – it made us feel dangerous.

I thoroughly recommend reading Danny Dyer’s autobiography “Straight Up”. Comedy gold on every page, not least the picture of his wife and daughter captioned “my girls, well fit”

Maybe brook Lee came on the site expecting it to be full of interesting posts, comments etc. Free speech for all CTID. Perhaps your wife has a good reason to moan.
