Macedonia defender only sees yellow after kung-fu assault on Shane Long
You must defeat Shane Long to stand a chance!
Both Republic of Macedonia defender Boban Grncharov and Ireland‘s Shane Long counted themselves lucky on Saturday evening – Grncharov for somehow not being sent off after wiping his football studs all over the striker’s face, and Long for not having to wake up in hospital on Sunday morning.

Another case of whining Irish ? This was a dangerous case of high foot, thus the yellow card, but it’s hard to see this as intentional. The player is focussed on the ball.

An ugly and no doubt misguided play to be sure, but he’s got a ways to go to top Nigel DeJong.

revengeOfTheOwl. Comical. What a ridiculous comment.
It doesn’t matter if the player is focusing on the ball if he’s marching on with a sword or bearing a machine gun in his hands while he’s at it, does it?

Violent conduct is a straight red, so the ref must have believed the foul was unsporting behavior for kicking? At head level? Seems to have gotten off lightly. Maybe in the EPL that’s a yellow, but most every other league it’s a red.
