Neymar banana throwing nonsense was ‘not racist’

Neymar, innit?

So, it turns out the git who threw the banana at Neymar in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Scotland wasn’t being racist at all – just an absolute tool.

The Metropolitan Police and Arsenal have investigated the matter and reckon there’s nothing more to be done after a German student came out and admitted he was responsible for the tw*ttery…

Brazil made no formal complaint and a statement released by the Scottish FA said:

“After consultation with the Metropolitan Police, Arsenal Football Club can confirm that a German teenage tourist has admitted throwing a banana onto the pitch during the Brazil v Scotland International Friendly at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

“The youngster was sitting in the North Bank of Emirates Stadium, an area of the stadium which was occupied by the official allocation of tickets to Brazil supporters, when he threw the banana onto the pitch during the second half of the match.

“The Metropolitan Police is satisfied there was no racist intent and have confirmed that no further action will be taken.”

All sorted? What do you make about it all? Let us know with a comment below.

Funny how that all worked out…

It wasn’t a racist Scot…or a racist Englishman…but a non-racist German who merely tosses bananas on to football pitches for …decorative purposes?

Now I would expect a full apology from Neymar, Lucas and every news station who falsely accused the tartan army of racism.

None of the various components of this story hang together. A German throwing a banana at a Scotland Brazil game and it’s deemed non-rascist? There is something wrong here. Very wrong.

Yes, there’s something very wrong here, which is ignorant people ignoring the fact that the Tartan Army is famous for its good behaviour and has never been about racism. People throw objects on the field all the time. Yes, the banana has often been chosen for racist purposes, but that doesn’t mean there can never be an exception.

What scots are failing to see here is that nor Neymar nor nobody else is accusing the Tartan Army, which is in fact a well behaved crowd. What is disgusting is the banana incident, be it from an “innocent” (??) german teen or not. Let’s not forget that the former days there were several racism incidents in european games, and bananas are historically thrown to black players now and then. So let’s not blame Neymar or expect apologies from him.

EVERYONE should grow up here. The banana joke wasn’t a very grown up thing to do, but you (the writer of this article) have no right to call him any names YOU want. Racism isn’t the only form of abuse at football matches -far from it. Yet it seems that the only form of abuse that gets any condemnation is racism, no matter how minor it is.

To be frank, a banana being thrown onto the pitch is absolutely NOWHERE near the abuse I’ve saw and heard some players receive over the years for other reasons. No personal abuse is ok (except, maybe, in the case of certain (ex) criminal footballers). Nobody should be getting their knickers in a twist over what. frankly was a very minor incident. No one was hurt, threatened, or anything else.

Political correctness has now skewered this country’s sense of right and wrong so much that I get the impression that a black player could go around beating and raping women but the minute someone chucks a banana on a pitch at him, the banana thrower is seen as the “real” evil and the black footballer is seen as a defenceless victim.

Can people just stop being so painfully “right on” and politically correct please? Other (more important) issues deserve our time and efforts.
