Messi doesn't miss, does he?

Lionel Messi smacks the ball at Real Madrid fans but doesn’t mean it. Honest.

Thanks to Spoiler reader, Greg…

Lionel Messi has always been seen as the exception to the rule that to be a proper good footballer you needed to be a bit of a ‘orrible git. You needed to like head-butting people (Zidane), make well late tackles (Scholes), be outrageously arrogant (CR7), shag prozzies (Wayne) or just do loads of drugs (Maradona). Messi was simply a nice little lad who liked playing football really well.

No longer! During their 1-1 draw with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, Lionel Messi went and smacked a ball right into the Real fans and receives plenty back. His innocent face seems to suggest it was an accident but, as the Spanish press and a member of Team Spoiler have noted, if you do miss the advertising hoardings, surely your first move is to apologise?

The Spoiler says – deliberate! What do you reckon, you handsome lot?

    absolutely intentional. should’ve been a card.

    @lah
    How can it be a booking if he has just kicked the ball out, it was still in play when he kicked it. Deliberate or not, it would be ridiculous to book a player for kicking the ball out hard.

    He kicked it directly into the crowd. Actually he was pretty petulant throughout this whole match and has been growing his attitude fast and fierce over the past few months so I wasn’t really surprised. He’s shocked and pissy when he misses as if he’s just not used to it at all. That’s sort of his thing ever since he won the last ballon d’or. I know, I know – he’s human. That’s fine with me.

    I’d surely do the same if I had been bombarded with laser pointers all match, especially when getting ready to take a penalty.

  • Jen // April 18, 2011 at 8:58 pm

    @ryan then ronaldo is a stronger man then messi because ronaldo by far gets the worst treatment of lasers in spain but never goes after the fans

    Deliberate or not, I’d let Messi throw his balls at me anytime.
