Surely?

Manchester United are in the final of the Champions League!

Bloody hell, Manchester United were good last night, weren’t they? Admittedly Schalke offered the sum total of eff all, but most of the credit should go to Sir Alex Ferguson and his band of ‘average’ players.

Michael Carrick was absolutely brilliant, Ryan Giggs was super and scored a very nice goal, while Wayne Rooney looks like he enjoys football again and was tip-top.

According to the always brilliant OptaJoe on Twitter, United have never lost a European home game by more than one goal. So, game over?

Fergie was understandably very chuffed with the performance and the result, saying:

“Overall I was delighted. It was a top performance. We have had some fantastic performances in Europe during my time.

“Juventus in 1999 obviously will always be high on the list but this certainly ranks as one of the best.”

From The Spoiler’s perspective, United were assured and it was totally good to watch a team go about things in such a clinical manner. Very nice it was.

The only downside is that Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer already looks certain to be heading to Bayern Munich – he was hugely impressive last night and helped put a dent in that statistic about Javier Hernandez scoring with every shot he’s had since he was nine or something.

So, what did you make of it all? Looking forward to the final? Were United that good? Were Schalke that bad? Let us know what you think with a comment below…

One thing is missing that… The way fabio was attacking the ball is amazing….

How Schalke ever got that far in the Champions League is unbelievable.

    Shocking doesn’t even come close.

What I find quite bemusing is how on Earth did Schalke manage to beat Inter 7-3 on aggregate in the last round??? Last night they didn’t look entirely sure what those posts things with a net behind them actually were… “It’s a funny old game” as they say!!!

Imagine if they didn’t have Neuer in the net. Wonder what the score would’ve been then?

I think Stoke could have genuinely beaten Schalke last night with a performance like that. Are not worthy of a semi-final place.
Robbed me of a decent night of football.

Interesting posts, most certainly different from the half-time assessment. A fluke Shalke strike or sending off would have changed a lot, since Neuer had frustrated the MU strike force the first 45 minutes. Imagine the frustration with no score at the 80 minute mark. Well-deserved away victory for MU. The final is within grasp, but the key to the second half of the tie is to avoid injuries and cards.

Manchester United played absolutely fantastic . The score could have been 5 nil or even 6 nil , but Manuel Neuer saves were amazing . Ryan Giggs was superb & the goal he did was very easy as the Schalke defense wasn’t strong . Manchester United were attacking very good . although Schalke was attacking , Man Utd’s defense was tougher & stronger . Manchester United have surely booked a spot into the final . It is already decided .

‘Michael Carrick was brilliant’ – I think that’s the first time I’ve ever read that. Nice work Spoiler.
