The Spoiler’s life could never be described as glamorous. The highlight of our day is generally a trip to Greggs for a tepid sausage roll followed by an evening in the flying lotus position trying to get a signal on our telly.
HOWEVER! Things took a turn for the sexy on Tuesday night when were invited to the Emirates by our dashing Dutch friends at Heineken to play a new football game called StarPlayer. Not only that, but they’ve given us some tickets to give away for a Champions League game next season…
Here’s the L-Down. The boffins at Heineken have found out that most people watch the Champions League at home and that most of them tend to have a laptop or phone in front of them as well. So they’ve gone and invented a game that’s played on a ‘computer’ or on an iPhone/iPod Touch while you watch the game.
It synchs up live and you’ll be given options about what will happen next from things like corners or free-kicks. Here’s a picture that’ll explain it better than a thousand words…
Basically, get it right and you get loads of points. There are also a few questions throughout the game if it’s boring as hell like the first hour of the Barca/Real game.
The Spoiler was bloody sceptical about it and thought it would completely get in the way of the game, but it’s actually rather good and only pops up for things like corners or scorable free kicks. You need a bit of nous which is good, like, and the technology is also impressive and bang on the bell of the incident.
Right, here’s the skinny. The first 24 people to sign up to The Spoiler’s Heineken StarPlayer league will get the chance to compete against each other over the remaining Champions League games, with the winner bagging tickets to a UK-based Champions League game next season.

When I try and join the league it says ‘League cannot be found’……

The secret is to just use league code and ignore the league name.

The link was a bit dodgy.
Just go to Heineken’s facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/heineken), click on the “Star Player” tab on the left-hand side and follow the instructions from there.

Actually, even then, when I enter the code I get “A connection error has occured, please try again later”.
Heineken’s fault, I think though, not The Spoiler’s.
