Well, in the 89/90 season the Football League did present Swindon Town a playoff winners trophy at Wembley – then relegate the club two divisions a matter of weeks later, so yes there is an example in football league history.

Though it must be said, they did this to a very skint Swindon Town, not sure they’d attempt it against a cash-rich-we-can-afford-better-lawyers-than-you QPR.

Football League Statement

A Football League spokesman said:

“The Football League can confirm that it intends to present the npower Championship Trophy to Queens Park Rangers at the conclusion of tomorrow’s fixture with Leeds United, in line with custom and practice. This decision will only be reviewed if the verdict of the ongoing FA Tribunal affects standings in the Championship table before that time.”

Surely they will not han us the trophy only for them to take it back days later. Is there a example of this in football league history?

Brian, I did reply in a similar vein to Mike, but it never registered! Suffice to say good luck with the play offs. All support is very much appreciated and all clubs in the league are respected. Sometimes, when you get an element of success, there is a tendancy to go a little overboard, so no harm meant at all to anyone else.
