Some brilliant FA Cup final goals and a dodgy tackle
These two aren’t even in it…
The FA Cup final is on Saturday and promises to be like most other FA Cup finals – a bit ‘meh’.
However, The Spoiler always holds out hope for these occasions so, to help us increase our excitement levels from ‘meh’ to ‘hmm’, we’ve put together a list of some very nice goals.
To our eternal shame, we’d almost completely forgot about the two Arsenal goals you see above. Anyway, here are some that we did remember…
Ricky Villa v Manchester City, 1981
The last time Manchester City were in the FA Cup final. This was apparently voted Wembley Goal of the Century in 2001. It was pretty good, but it wasn’t that good was it? We’ve included it though – it’s kind of a rule…
Stuart Pearce v Tottenham Hotspur, 1991
This is a great clip. The Spoiler has seen Gazza’s tackle on Gary Charles more times than it cares to remember, but here’s all the subsequent stuff – Stuart Pearce smashing a free-kick in, Gazza collapsing – it’s all there and all very interesting. Sadly embedding has once again been disabled by request.
Eric Cantona v Liverpool, 1996
He started his season scoring against Liverpool in the league after returning from his kung-fu-induced suspension and finished it with this completely excellent goal in the FA Cup final. As Martin Tyler says in his commentary – it couldn’t have been scripted any better.
Roberto Di Matteo v Middlesbrough, 1997
This was well quick. It was the quickest FA Cup final goal ever until Louis Saha did an even quicker one for Everton against Chelsea two years ago. It was also brilliant – The Spoiler had forgotten just how far Di Matteo carried the ball before he done the goal.
Gerrard v West Ham United, 2006
The Spoiler was watching this in the pub with a load of West Ham United supporters. Rather than being devastated when Stevie Gee smashed it home, they seemed resigned to the fact that something like that was bound to happen. Gerrard used to do stuff like that all the time, didn’t he?
We’ve definitely missed some belters. Shout us down below…
