Alex Ferguson tries to ban reporter for asking Giggs question
The Spoiler has been to a couple of press conferences where there has been the biggest elephant you could ever imagine hanging around in the corner, daring someone to mention him.
Generally the journalists will ask every vaguely relevant question they could ever dream of before everyone starts to look around sheepishly at each other. The silence will become increasingly more uncomfortable until some poor sap can’t take it anymore and says:
“So… Mr X… umm… now we’ve got some quotes to be getting on with and this wasn’t a completely wasted trip… WHAT ABOUT THAT THING THAT WE’VE WANTED TO ASK YOU ABOUT ALL ALONG?”
Rob Harris from the Associated Press news agency was the poor man who had to bite the bullet this time and ask Sir Alex Ferguson about Ryan Giggs…
Harris asked this:
“The most experienced Champions League player in the team is obviously Ryan Giggs. How important is he for the team on Saturday?”
To which Ferguson replied:
“All my players are important.”
So, after that less than subtle question had been asked, this is what Fergie had to say to Man Utd press officer Karen Shotbolt (great name) right in front of the microphones:
AF: “The guy that asked the question about Giggsy… at the press conference”.
KS: “Which one?”
AF: “Him that asked the question… who?”
KS: “Oh yeah, I’ll tell you later.”
(A few minutes later) AF: “Is he coming on Friday?”
KS: “The guy with the laptop?”
AF: “Aye. Then we’ll get him. Ban him on Friday.”
Giggs definitely should have sacked off his outrageously expensive lawyers and just got Ferguson to sort it for him. No messing with that boy, is there?
