Gary Lineker finally says something interesting!

Gary Lineker – Intellectual

Having spent the last decade on the Match of the Day sofa doing everything in his power not to say anything that could construed as ‘interesting’ or ‘informed’, Gary Lineker has finally come out and said something that has made us sit up and take notice.

The Spoiler likes ol’ Gary – we’re convinced behind the suntan there is a very intelligent and articulate man wating to burst forth. In fact, Gary would be in our MotD Dream Team – although he’d be a pundit and James Richardson (*swoon*) would be the anchor.

Speaking to his paymasters at the BBC, Lineker showed that, when asked to give an opinion rather than take the p*ss out of Alan Hansen’s putting, he is fully deserving of a place on our dream MotD couch.

He said:

“If Barcelona turn up, they win”Barca have got to have a bad day for United to realistically have a chance. Either that or United get lucky.”

Lineker did concede that, with the game being a one-off played in England, United had a chance of prevailing, but insisted that La Liga champions Barcelona were heavy favourites.

“The fact it is in England and they will probably get the vast majority of the support and it is 90 minutes, not two legs, gives them a better chance.

“But if they played 10 times, United might win one or two of them, there would maybe be a couple of draws and Barca would win the rest.”

So, is Gary right? Let us know what you think about Mr Lineker’s opinions and his new found ability to get his arse off the fence below..

well actually gary, the records show that weve played each other 10 times and its split down the middle with 3 wins each and 4 draws. Barca are far from unbeatable (having been beaten by bottom club Gijon at the Nou Camp at one point in their season). And who knows, if the match goes to ET then United have the advantage of having a better substitutes bench. Cmon United!!

As much as I’d like to see Man U beat Barca (cheats). I can’t see it.
Barca will not give them possession, and United won’t be able to play their counter game. True, Hercules beat Barca earlier in the year (3-1?) but that game was a total fluke, and Barca should have won comfortably. Man U have not looked impressive in all but a handful of games this season, whereas the exact opposite can be said for Barca. For me… Barca 2/3-0 :(
