Sneijder not to Man Utd, Downing to Liverpool and more…
Cheryl – coming home
It’s not been a good couple of days for the people of Newcastle. First Geordie Shore goes on television and tars everyone with the moron brush and then Cheryl Cole gets kicked off American X Factor because apparently no-one can understand her.
At least the men of Newcastle can console themselves with the fact that they’ll only have another 12 months, at most, of looking around the corner to check Joey Barton isn’t coming.
Here’s what else we know about transfer ‘news’ from the papers, the computer and the wireless…
First we head to Italy where Netherlands international Wesley Sneijder has said he won’t be heading to Old Trafford this summer because he’s happy at Inter Milan. Speaking to the Corriere dello Sport, he said:
“Next season? I’ll be here. I’ve been training with the squad without any problems.
“I’ll certainly be there against Palermo. I want to play and win the Coppa Italia so that we can end the season in a good manner.”
Closer to home, the Northern Echo have had a chat with Stewart Downing. He has decided not to renew his contract with Aston Villa. He had this to say:
“I know the club are keen for me to extend my contract as I only have two years left on my deal.
“My agent had a recent meeting with our chief executive. However, I am 26, and at a major crossroads in my career, so I won’t be committing to a new deal at the moment.”
So, Downing is off to Liverpool, right? It says so on Twitter and – as we’ve found out this week – all rumours you hear about on Twitter eventually turn out to be true.
Elsewhere, The Daily Mail is reporting that Patrick Vieira is set to return to Arsenal as a coach, while The Star is saying that Arsene Wenger has given up on signing Scott Parker and is instead after Eden Hazard.
He’s been after Hazard for months though, hasn’t he?
