Steve McClaren's not looking so bad now, is he?

Alan Shearer doesn’t go to Cardiff – Bluebirds fans delighted, MOTD fans gutted

Literally every photo shows them smiling and laughing…

It will come as no surprise to you that The Spoiler was really, really hoping Alan Shearer would become the next Cardiff City boss – probably as much as Swansea City fans were.

The thought of him taking charge of Craig Bellamy following that incident would have been a delicious prospect, while the thought of Saturday night’s without his analysis was positively mouth-watering…

We thought it was too good to be true though and, sadly, our suspicions were confirmed this morning. It would have been a massive gamble for both parties and in the end they probably made the right decision between them.

Shearer had this to say about the whole thing:

“I can confirm I was one of the candidates the club spoke to about the vacant manager’s position at Cardiff City.

“During these talks I was most impressed with the vision, ambition and determination of the owner Dato Chan Tien Ghee and the board.

“Unfortunately, those talks were unsuccessful on this occasion.

“Cardiff City is a great club and I wish them every success next season.”

As much as we dislike Al’s ‘lowest common denominator’ punditry style, he seems like a decent chap who doesn’t make many mistakes when it comes to his own lucrative post-football career.

If nothing else he knows which side his bread is buttered on.

It never fails to surprise me when a team in a top division wants to sign on a former big name player with no managerial experience. Being a good player does not equal being a good manager.
