"Coming over here. Taking jobs from English beers..."

And the brand new sponsor of the FA Cup is…

Stereotype-y

BUDWEISER! From next season the FA Cup will be called The FA Cup with Budweiser.

The Spoiler is expecting a few people to get a bit arsey about an archetypal American brand sponsoring the FA Cup, but it’s sponsorship, innit? It’s never going to be a pretty business.

Sounding rather desperate, an FA ‘source’ said this to The Sun:

“It’s a great coup to get Budweiser as our sponsor. Many doubted we could attract a big name but this shows how attractive the competition still is.

“Regardless of what people say about the Champions League and Premier League, the FA Cup remains the world’s greatest club competition.”

Oh, and by the way, previous sponsor E.ON’s headquarters are in Düsseldorf.

Does anyone really care?

Actually, InBev bought out Anheuser-Busch a few years ago. So the sponsors only moved over a few borders.

No problem with the Budweiser Cup name, its the ‘world’s greatest club competition’ definition which is… full of shite.

I’m American and I am appalled. Budweiser is total shite…I wouldn’t give it to my dog. Even worse is that it continues the myth that there isn’t good American beer.

I was a huge fan of the Bud Bowl years ago and will hold the Bud Cup with the same reverence.
