Clichy to Liverpool, Cahill to Spurs and more…

smooth…

Apparently the Daily Star has run a Ryan Giggs story on their front page for the past 14 days.

We’re not bothered about footballers in the front of the paper though – not today at least – and instead we’re heading straight to the back for a look at all the inky gossip and made-up stuff the Great British press are printing.

Here’s what we know about the HR shenanigans going on today…

Behind their pay wall, The Times is reporting that Liverpool could be set to miss out on Arsenal full-back Gael Clichy.

The Reds were thought to be favourites for his signature but the Gunners would rather sell him to Roma -  mainly because they have offered £7million to Liverpool’s £5million – but also because it’s starting to look like Liverpool will be a serious threat to Arsenal’s run of qualifying for the Champions League every year forever.

Perhaps Wenger would be tempted by £5million and Paul Konchesky?

There’s more bad news for the Gunners as one of their alleged targets is also being given flirty glances by Tottenham Hotspur.

The Sun reckons Spurs have joined the Gunners and Manchester City in chasing after Bolton defender Gary Cahill. Owen Coyle had this to say about the matter:

“People have to make sure they come up with the right offer.

“He won’t be going on the cheap, that’s for sure.

“Gary could play for anyone and looking at a few of the deals that are going on right now, it surprises me there hasn’t been a concrete offer.”

He’s off to Man City though, right?

Elsewhere, Barcelona are not willing to pay the €40million Arsenal want for Cesc Fabregas because they’re skint.

They can afford €45million for Alexis Sanchez though with a deal set to go through any minute now according to the player’s agent.

It looks like Fabregas will be having another season at the Emirates with his shoulders slumped and his puppy dog eyes staring enviously at the Nou Camp.

Finally, in factual stuff, Andre Villas-Boas has quit as Porto boss meaning the dugout at Stamford Bridge is about to get 78% more handsome, while Jamie O’Hara has joined Wolves on a permanent deal following his loan spell there last season – but you already knew all that.

Comolli should be sacked if we miss out on Clichy, because i see no reason why he can not afford an additional 2m to grab a player of Clichy’s ilk but yet can spend as big as 20m for a passenger like hendo
