Neymar to Russia, half a dozen defenders to Arsenal and more…
When The Spoiler was a little whippersnapper we had a weird habit of studying the calendars of Premier League teams in the January sale and working out which players would be sold.
If a player was pictured in the January to May section they were getting flogged, any later and they were fine and destined to be at their club for at least another season. It was not only a weird thing to do, but it lead to ridicule as The Spoiler made wildly inaccurate predictions based on the supposed insider knowledge of the calendar complier.
Anyway, we were reminded of this strange inclination when we saw a promotional poster for the Arsenal away kit this morning… CESC FABREGAS ISN’T IN IT! He’s definitely going. Maybe.
That’s all on the Fabregas thing for today… Here’s what else we know about transfer stuff from the grubby tabloids and the pristine broadsheets…
Firstly though, Sky Sports News are reporting that five clubs have met Santos’s £40.3million valuation of Neymar. They are Real Madird, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City and… Anzhi Makhachkala (!)
The Russian side currently have Roberto Carlos currently playing for them which is pretty much all they have going in their favour.
He’ll go to Real.
Having spend the past seven or so years listening to no-one, Arsene Wenger appears to be taking the advice of everyone and is apparently after Bolton’s Gary Cahill, Birmingham’s Scott Dann, Blackburn’s Chris Samba and Everton’s Phil Jagielka.
That story behind a dastardly Times pay wall so that’s pretty much all we know. It’s good that Wenger looks set to buy at least one centre-half though.
The Daily Telegraph reckons Steve Kean hasn’t been put off Robbie Keane by Spurs rejecting an opening £2million bid. As The Sun will no doubt say if their sub editors have a crack at this story – ‘Kean keen on Keane’.
Finally, The Daily Mirror say Barca have already turned down a £27million offer for David Villa, that James Milner is wanted back at Aston Villa and that Liverpool could send Jonjo Shelvey and Stephen Darby to Blackpool as part of a deal to get Charlie Adam to Anfield.
