Diego Forlan’s turbulent 2011 shows no sign of improving

World Cup Golden Ball winner spurns big chance against Peru

The miss in the video above might not be comically bad, but it is a further indication that absolutely nothing will go right for Diego Forlan right now, failure to convert against Peru continuing his wait for his first international goal this year.

Atletico Madrid must be cursing their decision not to cash in on the Uruguayan striker last summer when considered worth around £20 million after finishing as joint-top World Cup scorer and claiming the Golden Ball, having netted 28 goals in Spain beforehand.

After following up with a campaign in which he struck only eight times in La Liga, his least productive season since leaving Manchester United in 2004, and with limited-to-no resale having just turned 32, Atletico suddenly look unlikely to pocket eight figures.

£8.9 million is the figure mentioned at the moment with Tottenham thought to be pondering a bid, however even that is a significant outlay for an out-of-form player that may only have three more years at the top remaining.

Spurs fans, is he worth the risk? Share your thoughts below…
