Video: Napoli find a unique way to unveil their new signing

Forget televised medicals and helicopters, it’s lion’s mask time!

Some things in football happen with such frequency that it is challenging for clubs to find ways of standing out, and one such example is with the presentation of so-called marquee signings.

Innovations have arrived such as televised medicals, glamour signings doing kick ups in front of several thousand fans at their new home stadium and, for Robinho last year at Santos, being whisked into the ground in a helicopter alongside Pele.

Napoli’s addition to the theme might just be our favourite though, after their movie mogul president Aurelio De Laurentiis asked their big-money purchase Gokhan Inler to turn up at his introductory press conference wearing a lion’s mask to keep up the suspense.

Why a lion’s mask? The Spoiler isn’t too sure, we only wish such methods were being adopted in Naples back when Diego Maradona joined in 1984, not that the occasion was lacking in atmosphere…
