The Spoiler

Did you do what we told you to at the weekend?

The Spoiler

While Kevin Keegan failed to uphold his excellent record with new teams (he has never lost a match with a newly-managed side, and has always scored), plenty of the weekend’s Premier League action went according to our statistics.

Firstly, we told you Birmingham’s January blues would continue:

» chickendinner superfact: Birmingham are yet to win a game in January, and they picked up no league points whatsoever in January in their league campaign last season, despite eventually finishing second the Championship.

» In the last three meetings between the sides at St Andrews there has been just one solitary goal, and that came in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory in August 2004, with the other two fixtures finished goalless. Birmingham fans have been waiting for over two decades for a home victory over the Blues, with their last home victory being a 5-1 demolition in the 1979/80 season.

We pointed you towards the hat-trick hero at Fratton Park:

» chickendinner likely scorer: If anyone does in fact decide to score in this one, Portsmouth striker Benjani looks like a safe bet, having bagged nine league goals and opened the scoring on six occasions this season.

We told you Arsenal would get back to winning ways:

» Wenger’s side have never failed to score at Fulham in the Premier league and average 2.17 goals a game from their last six visits to the Cottage/ Loftus Road.

» The last time Arsenal drew successive matches they responded with a 3-1 win at Reading. They have not gone three games without a win since February 2007.

We told you how Reading would struggle when Ronaldo and co came to town:

» chickendinner superfact: Not since the 2002/03 season have United lost four times away from home in the league by the 19th January – In last season’s title winning campaign United only lost three times on the road all season.

» The Royals have lost their last three Premier league fixtures and conceded an alarming eleven goals in the process.

We showed you how Wigan would fail to contain their Merseyside visitors:

» Wigan have an extremely poor record when conceding first. In the thirteen games in which they have conceded the first goal they are yet to win, losing ten and drawing three times.

» chickendinner superfact: Wigan have never beaten Everton at home in the league, going down 2-0 at home last season, and drawing 1-1 in the season before that. Everton have won the last two meetings between the sides, including a 2-1 win at home on the first game of the season, and have not lost in the last four.

And finally, we picked up on the spooky pattern that indicated West Ham’s draw at the City of Manchester Stadium:

» chickendinner Da Vinci Code moment: West Ham’s last six games read LWDLWD…surely it is time for a draw?
