While the socially aware in the UK despair for the effect that Joey Barton’s agressive behaviour will have on our youth, the Germans are having similar role model problems.

Nico Patschinksi, a thirty-one-year-old striker with German third division side FC Union Berlin, has consistently come under fire for his rogue antics. In 2001, he posed with a drag queen, while in 2005 he said a goal of the month was inspired by ‘doing naked scissor kicks with my lover. You know – totally bare.’

As a striker in his thirties, Patschinski is in the autumn years of his career, and last week he gave a frank insight into his plans after football:

‘Porn and alcohol, man.’
