Chelsea/ Olympiakos

I once had the good fortune to attend a Versace fashion show. For those of you whose interest in sport doesn’t stretch to Italian design houses, the Versace brand is known for its gaudiness. For added showiness, the clothes were shown in a hall painted pitch black and decorated with pink, yellow and green fluorescent posters in an attempt to evoke a sleazy rock basement, with music played at an ear-splitting volume. This sensory overload had a quite extraordinary effect - many people, myself included, fell fast asleep. Chelsea’s new day-glo away kit seems to be having the same effect on most people this season, to the extent that just the thought of it makes people’s eyes swim and their necks roll. Tomorrow’s game against Olympiakos is at home, and therefore fluoro-free, thus providing a valuable opportunity to test if it is Chelsea’s shirts that are putting us to sleep, or if they really are as boring as they’ve tricked us into thinking.

The statistics

* Chelsea haven’t conceded a Champions League goal in their last five outings - it has been 531 minutes since Valencia’s David Villa scored past them.

* Olympiakos last reached the final eight of the competition nine years ago. Chelsea have reached the semis in three of the last four years.

* chickendiner long overdue streak: Frank Lampard has yet to bag a European goal this season, but is the club’s top scorer with twelve in all competitions.

What a boring, follow-fashion dullard. Not an original thought in your head.

It’s not about original thoughts Zzzzzz, it’s the facts. Chelsea are full amazing players, all brought to a collective dullness by the chelsea set-up. Chelsea palyed like robots under Mourniho but at least he had some charisma… now it’s Grant and Abramovich AND shit football… good luck tonight. I reckon you’ll do it one nil… Anelka obviously
