Anyone who stayed tuned after the game last night would have been witness to English madman Glenn Hoddle actually making sense for once. The big question spewing forth from his mouth was this - is the billionaire Roman Abramovich bothered about Chelsea any more?

After all, the Russian hasn’t been seen at a Chelsea match since the Carling Cup final - won, of course, by Spurs - meaning that he’s missed huge games against Man United, and the Champions League semi-final, arguably the biggest match in Chelsea history. No doubt he will be there in Moscow to enjoy the inevitable showering of grace from his countrymen, but how long will he stick around for after that?

He is obviously an adult who likes his big expensive toys - now owning more luxury yachts than anyone else on the planet - but while the likes of Barcelona and Arsenal play fluid entertaining football, his £600 million or so of investment has bought him a strong team that strangles rather than dazzles. The downfall probably being his assumption that if you throw money at something it becomes brilliant, rather than noting that both the aforementioned teams have spent years honing and tweaking a house style that doesn’t always work, but looks great.

So, should his team of bores grab the European title this year, can we expect to see Abramovich sloping out of the back exit in the not too distant future? After all, he’s got a great looking girlfriend called Daria (below) to french kiss during the day - who needs football?
