It’s inevitable that Berbatov will be playing Champions League football next season, hence the men in suits at Tottenham have been frantically shuffling paper and yammering about possible alternatives. David Villa was looking the most likely target.
Until today. Clever Spanish men insist that the forward has absolutely no intention of traveling to North London at all, and will instead be taking a rather more trundling coach trip to Real Madrid. The striker reckons that the honchos at Valencia have given him their blessing, and next season he will be lining up with his international buddy Raul.
Ramos is probably gutted.
So, Spurs, who next?

I’d hate to spoil your little rant, but Hutton reportedly said no twice, we still got him

Good one davspurs. You missed the punchline about Messi, Ronaldo and Kaka all joining the Ramos Revolution too though!
I’d concentrate on finishing in the top half next season, let alone worrying about the top three!

… and who says Spurs want Villa? Oh yeah, The Daily Mail.
Useless english tabloids. I feel sorry for those who actually believe what they say.

It certainly looks unlikely Villa will be moving to Spurs after Guillem Balague from Sky Sports reported first hand that David didn’t fancy the move despite his admiration for Ramos. Villa has his heart set on Real Madrid.
However, current reports suggest this move is also likely to fail as the manager there would prefer Drogba or Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Valencia have given their blessing for him to move in the summer but are also known for blocking moves to Madrid in the past. Gaizka Mendieta ended up being shipped to Lazio after having his dream move blocked. Real are also unlikely to join a bidding war when he’s not viewed as their first choice target.
This in itself may force Villa to reconsider his options. If Spurs act fast like they did with Modric there’s a slim chance but it’s more likely he’ll end up at Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea. One thing for sure is there is going to be a large influx of quality players joining the Premiership in the summer after our strong showing in the Champions League.
Let the games begin!

Check your sources before writing an article. The ‘clever Spanish men’ you mention belong to the Marca: a Spanish royalist paper that is completely biased towards Real Madrid.
Hardly dependable.

exactly. Villa hasnt said anything yet because he wants to keep his options open, should the move break down. He has openly admitted many times how much he admires Ramos and wanted to join Sevilla when Ramos first took over, only for Zaragoza to turn them down for Valencia as they offered more cash for him. I personally wouldn’t blame him for wanting to join Real Madrid because let’s face it, they are so far in front of us in the pecking order it’s not even funny but, Real’s top transfer target this summer happens to already be our very own Dimitar Berbatov - also quoted by Marca. They aren’t going to spend the outlay everyone thinks on new strikers so it’s Berba or Villa and I think Berba is the more likely option. Villa, will end up in England, However, I don’t think it will be in Blue and White :(

Ron, I am pretty sure you realize the difference between Alan Hutton and David Villa. He would leave Valencia to have a chance at winning a title, be it a Premier League, La Liga or Champions League title. Do you believe he would chose Tottenham then?
Other people mention Dimitar Berbatov being a transfer target for Real Madrid, another thing being highly unlikely.
Brooklyn Hotspur said that Tottenhams chance would be in acting fast, like the Luka Modric case. Difference between the two players is that David Villa is an already established top player that will expect to fight for league trophies and champions league trophies every season.

Fung, I don’t know whether Villa is interested in Spurs or not, but I do know that you can take comments like this with a pinch of salt as with Alan Hutton.
I do know one thing for sure, If Spurs don’t get a top striker then Berbatov won’t be going anywhere. He still has effectively 4 years to run on his contract and Spurs have no need to sell him.

I was unpleasantly surprised that Modric signed on for the Yids rather than at Anfield but at least it’ll make the season more interesting if they can at least compete..but trying to sign Villa and being heavily knocked back is just a sign of how small-time Spurs are, it’s time they realised it.
