The latest rumoured relief for the burning hole in Rom’s pocket
No one cares about money any more, everyone knows that. You could walk into Spurs HQ with £1 billion this afternoon and you wouldn’t even come out with an Aaron Lennon or Younes Kaboul (okay, you might) - football clubs want extras, they want deals. Hence, it’s all about the packaging.
Liverpool, for example, are unlikely to get Gareth Barry unless they throw in a Riise, or even a Crouch, and now it looks like Mr Moneybags over at Chelsea has twigged that it might take more than the smell of Sterling to attract the attention of the Spurs boardroom. He is instead relying on the perfumed allure of Shaun Wright-Phillips and Nicola Anelka to pry the tricky Bulgarian, Dimitar Berbatov, from the North London death grip.
Wright-Phillips has long been surplus to requirements at Chelsea - almost exactly to the day since they realised he couldn’t cross a football - but by throwing a speedy former Gunner into the mix, Tottenham might just bite at this one. The alternative would be to actually give Darren Bent a game at some point next season - which would be ridiculous, obviously.
With Man United, AC Milan and Barcelona rumoured to be waiting on every corner wearing their best underwear and making lewd remarks about what they would do, Chelsea will have to move very fast.

The thought of Berbs going to another prem side makes me feel sick to the guts. But, if it must happen, Anelka would be a good addition to our squad. I don’t think he really got a decent chance at Chelsea and I can picture him and Keano being a good pairing. Love your D Bent attitude mate lol

It will never happen. After the Arnesen incident I think it will be a very long time before any transfers happen between spurs and chelski.

The body of the chelsea player looks like an unfit fan wearing it! I know, it’s Fat Frank! Do me a favour and super impose Drogba in a Milan shirt, Fat Frank in a Barca shirt, Bridge in a sunday league shirt and Cole in a dirty Xunt shirt………and lastly Terry in a sling! I hope United make Chelsea win nothing this year!
