God 1, MOTD 0
With such an intricate little beard, Gavin Peacock has always had the look of a patient man. And unlike some of the brainless blabbermouths plonked next to him at the BBC’s Football HQ, his comments are often insightful and interesting - in a similar vein to the kind of things Jesus probably used to say in temples to groups of muttering elders. So, is it any wonder that Peacock is moving ever closer to the Lord?
The word on the street (or, more specifically, in The Times) is that following Euro 2008, the kindly pundit will be relocating to the snowy hills of Canada to study the scriptures, and then join God’s workforce, either as a vicar, a pastor, or one of Glenn Hoddle’s dribbling sidekicks at whatever club Hoddle deems worthy of his spiritual presence in around three years time.
Unknown to those unfamiliar with Christianity, Peacock has been a regular face on Songs of Praise in recent years, and has been caught preaching at a modest Anglican Church in Kent on numerous occasions.
Best of luck, Gavin. Peace be with you etc.
