Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
In this world, some people just don’t understand each other. Go into any shoe shop on a sweltering Saturday, and you’ll see men - grown men - in the midst of a finger pointing whirlwind, starring blankly at their disgruntled wives/girlfriends, totally unaware of what they might have just done wrong. They’re bewildered. Much in the same way that The Spoiler is feeling bewildered right now. Because of the Spanish.
Just five short days ago, we wrote a kind-hearted, innocent piece about how the Spanish football team was still celebrating Euro 2008 almost a week after it had finished. We chuckled to ourselves, hugged, and went home happily singing Spanish folk songs to show our inner appreciation of Spain. And then something disturbing happened. Actual Spanish people read the piece, and it seems our gentle musings have been met with a roaring fury. From nowhere.
“What’s the problem?” raged Nadia7.
“Fucking British!!! Fucking you and your players… where are the british players at Euro 2008?????” honked a livid sirjuilian.
“Do any of you know what the English do when they go to Spain?” mused Rubens, promising insight. “Drink, drink and drink! And with nothing to celebrate!”
“NEVER criticize anyone for drinking!” yelled LONDON SUCKS.
And most disturbingly, one man wrote “Fuck the Queen!!!!!!!!!”, with, like, nine exclamation marks.
Thankfully, most of the comments have been written in Spanish, so we have chosen to assume their complimentary, apologetic nature.
But have we inadvertently stumbled across the world’s most sensitive fans?

haha !! well.. spanish man here… I think you shouldn’t take too seriously the spanish blogger crew, normally teenagers in the “mine’s bigger than yours” mood…
But as you are in the sensationalistic bussiness, I think you shouldn’t get angry if someone takes too seriously what you guys write … it’s exactly the same thing! I would say it’s even worse, as I assume you are grown-ups, as opposed to the typical -football- blogger. It’s like if the parents start arguing with children at the same level…
I don’t neccessarily agree with your way of doing journalism, but I respect it. Football players unfortunately earn a bit more than me, they are public figures, so they are subject to criticism.
Besides that, I think English people is not the most adequate to censor alcohol and football. In your culture both things are much closer than in our culture, if there’s such a culture thing, or I would say, if there’s culture at all in football ;)

¿Como sois capaces de criticarnos? Es lo que buscabais ¿no es cierto? queríais declaraciones para haceros pasar por victimas. Así ponéis a parir a los españoles que por cierto se os da muy bien.
Sois unos hipócritas. Los ingleses como bien dicen arriba venís a España a emborracharos y a destruir el mobiliario urbano. Cuando nosotros vamos a Inglaterra de turismo o a aprender ingles nos tratáis mal (racismo). Vuestros jugadores de fútbol normalmente copan noticias escandalosas (drogas) por cierto no fueron unos futbolistas ingleses los que violaron o acosaron a una chica en Barcelona. Los principitos también han sido vistos borrachos y así podemos continuar. Lo mejor de todo es que os creéis superiores a los españoles en todo siendo tolerantes (mentira sois mas racistas que nosotros) educados (venís a otro país a emborracharos y a pelearos) y encima tenemos que recibiros en ingles pues no yo si voy a tu país aprendo tu lengua y si vienes al mio aprendes español, ahora mismo y dado que es un periódico inglés debería escribir en ingles pero no me da la gana hago como vosotros.

Estos que insultan a los ingleses no representan a los españoles por suerte.Los españoles somos mas educados e inteligentes que toda esta panda de descerebrados que me han hecho sentir verguenza.(Sorry if i don’t speak in english but it`s no good enough).Regards.

Only yourselves to blame. I think the Spanish are fed to the back teeth with the inexplicable but enduring English/British superiority complex regarding anything Iberian (visible in all areas, politics, sport, e.g. Hamilton / Alonso spat, Nadal accused of cheating by Federer freaks, and culture). People in glass houses …

I think the problem was not the article itself, but some comments made about how spanish players celebrate, probably made by some english person and that how it started, but I feel very sorry because with all the bad things happening in the world right now we should not be fighting againts each other!

The Spanish fans need to see the video of the national team singing and doing the train behind basten Shweinsteiger when he was being interviewed after the Euro final. That was so un sportsman like and the Spanish have no right to critisize anyone. Im not English or German but those remarks by the spanish are typical and shows they have no class

Michael, they didn’t do that on purpose. They came out from the dressing room doing the conga and just happended that Bastian was being interviewed near the door, as you can see in this other video
